I like most all horror except b movie horrors, and my bf don't and my parents don't, and I thought it'd be nice if we could start a tradition of meeting up and watching them together, with local people who enjoy movies. There's an sf bay area group, so how about a Sacramento group?

Who's going? Is it starting at the Bicycle Kitchen or at the Towe Auto Museum?

Last year was awesome - 300-400 cyclists winding through the Land Park area. Tons of smiles and waves from the residents and cute/crazy bikes taking over the streets.

The voice of an angel. The voice of a demon.

Those attending any of Northern California-based CLAUDIA'S ASHES' live rituals are often left torn deciding between the two, as front woman Stephanie Michelle's voice transitions seemlessly between ethereal singing and menancing metal growls. She moves, eyes closed, in a trance as her band churns out the heart of her music behind her. Sean "Bug" Flynn thrashes about, his fingers moving like fire over the fretboard of his guitar, while Kerry Fisher keeps the low-end fluid and precise.

Since 2002, the music of Claudia's Ashes has slowly evolved into what it is today: dark, beautiful, unique. Although a one-woman project behind the scenes (Stephanie Michelle writes and records all of the music on her lonesome), Stephanie credits the newfound energy and life that has been inserted into her blend of goth, electronic and metal music to her live bandmates. The music iteself simply cannot be lumped into any on genre, as it encompasses a range of styles so as to make pin-pointing and labeling a difficult task. With soaring synths, crunchy industrial guitar riffs and melancholic vocals, it's no wonder that fans of several different musical genres adore this band. Covering topics such as lust, despair, heartbreak, horror and fantasy, the lyrics are just as brutally honest as the music.

Yes, I admit, I've been unfaithful to you, Sacramento. I've left you twice now, but I'm back. And I'm back for good, my love. I hope you can see that our time apart has made me wiser and that I now appreciate you for exactly what you are and what you have to offer.

Sure, the glittering lights, warm beaches, and palm trees of Miami called. But, you know what, Miami is a fickle, corrupt, dirty, violent, pathetic city full of aging Don Johnson wanna-bes and J-Lo-esque fakes. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I thought about coming back to you then, but I got a job overseas. In a violent, even-dirtier, developing country (albeit still with the palm trees). Okay, I said, I'll go to DC, where there's a lot of jobs. And, you know what, I *liked* DC. I made some friends, I liked the humidity. I realized, though, what I liked about DC was that it reminded me of *you*--just bigger and older. I didn't admit this to my friends or even myself, because I found the whole thing a little embarrassing.

So, I moved to San Francisco. Now there's a great city. It's beautiful. It's got the bay, it's got great architecture, it's got style. It's got mountains and oceans, and interesting politics. Also, it's bloody expensive, high maintenance, and there's no goddamn place to park. It's pretentious, too, probably for a good reason, but still, nobody really likes a snob. Plus, the men. Don't get me started. But let's just say that dating sucked there. You can check it out for yourself. If you see a nice looking, articulate, well-groomed man--he's gay. See that slob over there who hasn't bathed or shaved in a week, communicating in grunts? Yeah, he's straight. (Note to SF men: Consider a shower, a haircut, a little deodorant, a shirt that has only been worn once or twice. Take a page from the hot gay men all around you. Thanks.)

I also tried out Santa Cruz--you know, that little buff surfer-vegan town a little south? Yeah, well, first off, I made *two* friends there. Two. In two years. WTF. I know it's not me...I make friends. Nobody wanted to be my friend there. I felt like I had to *hide* to eat a steak. I had the Teva-fleece thing going. I mean, it's not like I stuck out like a gun-toting, Bush-supporting, Hummer driver. I can blend. Not in S-Cruz. I couldn't even take my dog to the freaking off-leash dog park without some nutcase ranting at me about how bad I was for having a dog. When did it become a *political* issue to have a furry mutt at your side? When did the contents of my stomach become *your* business? Did I miss an orientation session or something?

So, Sacramento baby, I'm back. And I love you. I love waking up to your sunny blue skies. I love walking around midtown. I love your bar scene. I love your sexy green parks. You even have a park where I can take my dog, without it being some kind of political statement. I love the Capitol building. I love that Arnie lives in a penthouse and nobody really likes him. I love that I can just be myself here, and nobody is going to lecture me on my Nationwide steakburger as I scarf it down in McKinley Park. I love your trees--really, your best feature. Especially the huge magnolias in midtown. Especially the palm tree in my neighbors' yard. Especially all the freaking elms and plane trees. I love the downtown alleys with the crazy homeless people and tattoo shops. I love the live music scene. I love your restaurants--where I can actually dine outdoors without wearing six layers of fleece and a hat. I love your summer nights with the sweet Delta breezes. I love that you are sexy and cool, without being showy or pretentious. I love that *nobody* outside Sacramento gets you. Oh, I've heard it all--"Cow Town", "Suckramento"--and I say pshaw! Let 'em stay away and never discover your true worth. I have. And it's good to be home.

Based on James Redfield's worldwide best-selling novel, The Celestine Prophecy is a spiritual adventure film chronicling the discovery of ancient scrolls in the rainforests of Peru.
I am a Renaissance Faire enthusiast so I love the fact that the Sac area hosts two faires. Fair Oaks Tuydor Faire and Folsom Faire.

I like seeing live music at various places like Harlow's or The Boardwalk

I am thrilled about the new IKEA store. :) well I just bought a place and they have affordable stuff that is cool.

Bustrip from Sacramento to SF? (dec 3rd @ Red Devil Lounge)

Whats up everybody?

Want to go on a roadtrip with INRUIN?!

We're playing at the Red Devil lounge in SF on Dec 3rd! We were going to charter a bus leaving Sacramento and arriving in SF, but we need to see how many people would want to go with us!
If you're along the way, we might even add another stop or two to pick up more people.
It would probably be $35-45/ea, that would include a ride back and forth plus admission to the show, and copies of our new demos! Thats less than it would cost just for your gas alone to drive there and back from Sac!

So hit me back and let me know!

Meteor Shower Tonight ?

Who wants to go to the Folsom dam to see this ?
Tapan

Perseid Shooting-Star Display Peaks Tonight, Space Groups Say
Aug. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The Perseid display of shooting stars caused by the Earth's passage through debris left by the Swift- Tuttle Comet is expected to peak later today and early tomorrow, NASA and other space and astronomy groups said.

The monthlong annual display, caused by meteoroids burning up in the Earth's atmosphere, is expected to peak twice late today and early tomorrow, according to Bill Cooke, a scientist at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Meteors can be seen wherever it is night and cloud cover permits in the northern hemisphere, Cooke said.

The first peak will be caused by the Earth passing through a stream of dust deposited by the comet in 1862, during the American Civil War, Cooke said by telephone from Huntsville, Alabama. The second, ``normal'' peak will occur at about noon GMT tomorrow as the planet moves through particles left by the comet ``thousands of years ago,'' according to Cooke.

``The waning moon is very favorable, which will enhance the show, and help in observing the Perseids,'' said Cooke, who works at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. ``The normal Perseid peak will probably have many more bright meteors than the filament'' deposited in 1862, he said.

More than 100 meteors an hour may be visible at about 9 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time today, and a burst of brighter, though fewer, Perseids is expected at about noon GMT tomorrow, Cooke said. The shooting stars will be visible in the area of the sky where the Perseus constellation lies. Anyone beyond 30 degrees south of the Equator won't be able to see the display, Cooke said.

`Tears of St. Lawrence'

The Perseids, sometimes known as the ``Tears of Saint Lawrence'' because the saint's feast day falls on Aug. 10, often leave behind bright ``ionisation'' trails across the sky, lasting for a few seconds, the British Astronomical Association said on its Web site. This year's Perseid shower started on July 23, and ends Aug.20, it said.

The timing of the meteor shower means that the first peak is best seen from Asia and Eastern Europe, while viewers in the western U.S. will have a better view of the second increase in intensity. Sky-watchers don't need binoculars or telescopes to view the meteor shower, though the U.K.'s Royal Astronomical Society advises them to stay away from city lights in order to get a better view, according to the group's Web site.

Some viewers may not see the meteor shower, due to cloud cover. The remains of Hurricane Alex, which are crossing the U.K., will deprive parts of Britain of the clear skies needed for viewing, according to an e-mailed statement from London-based online forecaster Metcheck.

Comet Swift-Tuttle was discovered separately by Americans Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle during its 1862 passage close to the Earth, NASA said on its Web site. The Italian astronomer Giovanni Sciaparelli three years later established the connection between the comet and the Perseid meteor shower.

Sactown Socializing---where?

okay, so here's the deal:

I'm new to sactown, like got-here-couple-weeks-ago type new. My wife grew up here but didn't get out much and now swears that there's no real fun to be had here, that you gotta hit the bay.

I'm thinking that a town of TWO MILLION must have some fun of their own without a 3-hour round trip.

(sidebar: "fun" = kick back times with kick back people that doesn't involve too many $$ and doesn't DEPEND on mood or mind-altering substances. Not that substances are forbidden, just not looking for spot where all we'd do is smoke a reeeeeeally fat one and pass out.)

So you know, this request for guidance is coming from ex-LA couple who ran with the fun-loving, active, artistic, open-minded, non-homophobe, fire-spinning, politically & sexually liberal, Landmark-y, peirced-and-tatooed, hedonistic crowd.

I'm not expecting Sac to have the flash and sizzle (or the preoccupation with appearance) of LA, but I figure a town of this size in California has to have it's share of funky, free-spirited types--and they gotta get together and do something.

....besides watch kings games.....

I'm all ears---please help a newbie out!

peace & blessings,
cedi

Wow, I haven't logged into tribe for probably six months, and here I see people are actually using junk I started, word. So anyway I'm not sure exactly what's going on in Sacramento today, but as far as I can tell, the world is pretty screwed up.

Summer is coming though, and as someone already posted, that means four things for those of us in the 916.
1. Drinking.
2. BBQs.
3. Triple-digit heat.
4. Body Odor (may be missing if you avoid wal-mart and mcdonalds).

I highly suggest this "BBQ" thing. Preferably minus any OMGWTF.
